Do you dream of fishing for salmon amongst volcanoes, lava and hot springs, in some of the best rivers Iceland can offer? If you are just itching to try fishing the riffling-hitch - then we have just the place for you!

Atlantik Travel works in partnership with Iceland's largest and most professional salmon fishing outfitter. We can offer individually tailored tours in all price classes, with fishing in a selection of some of the best salmon rivers in Iceland. Our clients can choose to stay in a range of accommodation from luxury lodges to simple fishing huts. Here are a couple of examples of some of the fantastic salmon rivers Atlantik clients have fishing previously:

River Langá

The River Langá is a member of the select group of salmon rivers that have proven themselves over decades to be the very best in Iceland. It was one of the very first rivers that visiting English and Scottish anglers fell for when they discovered the delights of salmon fishing on Iceland in the 1860's. Formerly, getting hold of even a share of one of the 10 rods that are available to fish the rivers 93 named pools required very deep pockets. But times have changed and the river is now within the reach of many more salmon anglers, who now have the chance fo fulfill their wildest fly fishing fantasies.

We recommend fishing with single-handed class 7 or 8wt rods, normally with floating lines. The locals are wild about fishing hitch flies across the surface of the river, and once you have first tried this technique traditional salmon fishing will never be the sane again - it is just so much fun! A fishing holiday on the River Langá also gives you the chance to stay in one of Iceland's newest and best fishing lodges. Your stay is on a full board basis, which includes a full gourmet dinner every evening. There is also a guide and a 4WD vehicle at the disposal for every pair of rods. A fishing day in Iceland can last upto 12 hours, so you get alot of fishing in return for your hard-earned money!

Laxá in Dölum

This fine salmon river in north western Iceland offers 26km of productive fly-water, with plenty of classic salmon pools. Only 6 rods are available! It is perfect for single-handed rods, floating lines and fishing the rifflin hitch. The Laxá in Dölum has one of the highest average catches per rod per day in Iceland. It is also known for it's relatively high proportion of bigger salmon (4 -8 kg) and every year fish in the 10kg class are landed. However, as is the case with nearly all icelandic rivers, catches are dominated by smaller salmon. If you have ever dreamt of fishing for salmon on this enchanted island, we can only say one thing - now is the time to act!

Prices - River Langá and the Laxá in Dölum

Shared rod from approx. €2,700- (exc. flights)

Full rod from approx €4,300- (exc. flights)

The above price examples are for the low season in June and August. In July prices are markedly higher, but on the other hand the fishing is truely world class. Contact Atlantik for an offer for your dream tour to Iceland.

As the Langá and Dölum are amongst the best rivers in Iceland we really do recommend early booking - the sooner you book the better the chance you have of getting one of the few, much sought after rods that are available!

The example prices include:

- Transfers to and from the lodge

- Accommodation in one of Iceland's best fishing lodges (6 nights)

- Full board (3 meals daily, plus tea and coffer throughout the day)

- 7 days fishing (from 16.00 on arrival day to circa 12.00 on departure day)

- Transport to and from the river in a 4WD vehicle

- Fishing guide on all days (one guide is shared between 2 rods)

The example prices do not include:

- Flights

- Disinfection of fishing tackle

- Travel and cancellation insurance

- Drinks

- Gratuities

Sharing a rod is very popular on Iceland and is a great way of fishing here. You simply walk together along the river, taking turns to fish. In comparison think of fishing in Norway, where you often have to wait in a queue for your turn to fish a pool! Here in Iceland there are only the two of you sharing a stretch of the river, which is often longer than most day ticket waters in Norway. Another aspect of sharing a rod is that  the average catch per rod per day is usually higher when the rod is shared by two anglers.
